Amy was born and raised in Northern New Jersey, holds a BA in Psychology, a Master of Social Work, and a Master of Fine Arts in Writing. As an undergraduate she spent a semester studying at the University of Exeter in England. She is the daughter of the late Judith Allara and American chemist David L. Allara.
